AESTHETICS COMMITTEE POLICY

RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direction of the Senior Minister, the Aesthetics Committee is responsible for the visual unity of the interior and exterior of the Sanctuary and the Administration Building. Any substantive aesthetics changes to these spaces must be approved by the committee in advance. This includes the addition of any artwork, banners, furniture, plants, or signs, etc.
MEMBERSHIP: The Aesthetics Committee is comprised of five members. Members serve for two year terms. When a member’s term is completed, they are welcome to begin a new term if so desired. When a vacancy occurs, a new member will be identified and invited to join. Experience or expertise in design is valuable but not required. A chair will be elected at the beginning of each fiscal year by majority vote.
MEETINGS: The Aesthetics Committee meets monthly, on the first Sunday of the month after service, or virtually, as necessary. All meetings are open to any guests who wish to observe. If a guest would like to participate or present a topic, they will coordinate with the committee chair at least two days prior to the meeting.
CONSULTATION: The Aesthetics Committee consults with users and stakeholders before making any final decisions.
APPROVAL OF DONATED ITEMS: The Aesthetics Committee must approve any object donated for use or display in the Sanctuary prior to installation. The Committee will coordinate the removal of any unauthorized items.
BUDGET: The Aesthetics Committee may request funds from the Board and/or Special Funds, and may conduct fundraisers through Stewardship for special projects.
RELATION WITH FACILITIES COMMITTEE: The Aesthetics Committee will request the approval of the Facilities Committee if modifications are intended to any structures on campus, including changing, adding, or removing walls, doors, windows, fixtures, shelves, outlets, landscaping, or any structure. The Facilities Committee will refer decisions related to aesthetics to the Aesthetic Committee.
COMMUNICATION WITH MINISTER: The minister is invited to attend and will receive minutes from all business meetings. The committee operates on the minister’s behalf regarding aesthetic issues
